West Africa Studies: Conflict over Resources and Terrorism

West Africa Studies: Conflict over Resources and Terrorism

Henry Wilkinson, Rob Crowley and Kayla Branson, of Risk Advisory’s Intelligence & Analysis department, have jointly contributed specialist papers on terrorism and insecurity in West Africa for a publication by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), entitled Conflict over Resources and Terrorism – Two Facets of Insecurity.

The book explores conflict and insecurity in West Africa, and aims to challenge prevailing analyses that oversimplify issues affecting the region. Henry Wilkinson and Kayla Branson analyse the causes of the crisis in Mali, and warn that the terrorism threat in the Sahel requires new understanding. Rob Crowley and Henry Wilkinson look at the emergence of Boko Haram in Nigeria and the lessons neighbouring countries can learn from the  insurgency in tackling the new and evolving terrorist threat in the region.

Conflict over Resources and Terrorism – Two Facets of Insecurity is available to purchase from the OECD Bookshop and is available to read in the OECD iLibrary.
