The upcoming presidential, parliamentary and state-level elections come amid signs of deteriorating security in Nigeria. The presidential poll on 16 February will see the incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, pitted against Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party. And there will also be state-level elections in all but six of Nigeria’s 36 states on 2 March.
In this podcast, our lead Sub-Saharan Africa analyst in Intelligence & Analysis, Thomas Murphy, discusses the likelihood of politically and ethnically-motivated violence and unrest around the elections. He also gives our forecasts for the outcome of the polls, and their implications for businesses operating in Nigeria.
The content of this podcast mirrors that of a briefing that we held at our offices on 16 January.
