Angola’s President, José Eduardo dos Santos, is stepping down after the general elections in August, having served as the country’s leader since 1979. The likely successor is João Lourenço, the candidate of the ruling MPLA. However, succession has been made complicated by an economy under stress from sustained low oil prices. What’s more, government contracts and investment decisions are at a standstill until the dust settles.
In this briefing and webinar, we will discuss the following questions; Will Lourenço deliver the stability that is expected? How will the new administration impact the investment climate and corruption risk? And what role will the dos Santos family and their close advisors have after the elections?
