James brings broad geopolitical experience to the team. Over his 30-year diplomatic career he served as British Ambassador to Panama and Peru and as High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Maldives. In London he led Foreign Office departments covering South Asia and Latin America. He has also worked in Russia.
Before joining the Foreign Office James trained and worked as a solicitor in the City of London for six years, specialising in company law and commercial transactions.
All of his senior roles have required him to advise, negotiate and influence at high levels of government, industry, education and civil society, in the UK and internationally. He has helped companies of all sizes to develop new markets, grow their businesses and address challenges, often in difficult environments.
He has worked extensively with traditional and social media, in English and Spanish.
